Operations Manager (non hazardous waste), perm role £35 to 40k , negotiable

Position:

Operations Manager

 

Reporting to:

General Manager

 

Aim of the Post:

 

1.         To ensure efficient, profitable and safe running of the tankering and maintenance activities in line with current road transport, environmental and health and safety legislation in line with, or in excess of agreed targets.

2.             Deliver excellent customer service beyond the expectations of clients and the standards of our competitors.

3.             To maximise and exploit opportunities for gaining added value and additional works.

  

Key Responsibilities:

 

·         Awareness at all times of both tankering and service operational requirements and expectations, ensuring delivery of a first class service to all customers/stake holders

 

·         Optimise the efficiency and profitability of all operational activities

 

  • Provide technical resource (process & engineering, diagnostics & resolution) for clients & colleagues

 

  • Day to day management and supervision of the Tankering and Service Coordinators, tanker drivers, field service engineers/technicians, sub-contractors and suppliers

 

  • Assisting Sales in pricing tankering and maintenance contracts as necessary

 

  • Preparation of proposals & quotes for repair/replace/up-grade of plant and equipment

 

·         Ensuring that site specific equipment and operational details and records are kept up to date

 

·         Recruitment and management of drivers and engineers

 

·         Management and maintenance of the Serious Heavy Goods Vehicle Operator licences – including tachographs and Working Time Directive obligations

 

  • Procurement and purchase of hoses, PPE, and other consumables/tools and equipment specifically for tankers and engineers’ vans

 

  • Specification, sourcing and procurement of spares and equipment, including supply chain management relative to engineering operations

 

·         Management of Health & Safety issues relating to all operational activities

 

·         Review and recommend any improvements to operational resources including additional personnel and/or equipment

 


Key Duties:

 

·         Review and recommend any improvements to operational resources including additional personnel and/or equipment

 

·         Oversee daily activities to ensure efficient routing/resource utilisation, delivery of a first class customer service and achievement of daily/weekly targets/KPI’s

 

  • Managing and expediting the company’s response, including diagnostics, to system and process failures

 

·         Co-ordinate experience/knowledge transfers between tanker operators and engineers respectively to ensure consistency and effectiveness of tankering and maintenance activities in line with company and client expectations

 

·         Day to day scheduling of vehicle servicing, repairs, MOT’s, tachograph calibrations

 

·         Operation and maintenance of administration systems and procedures in line with DETR and GVO Licensing regulations

 

·         Audit condition of vehicles and tools, equipment and stock carried

 

·         Ensure that all relevant Health and Safety regulations are adhered to and deliver training on regulations and safe working practices where appropriate

 

·         Ensure the maintenance and calibration of all safety equipment meets relevant legal requirements

 

·         Deal with customer enquiries/complaints relating to operational issues to ensure maintenance of good customer relations

 

·         Implementing and maintaining rota’s for on-call/standby resources

 

·         Controlling annual leave requirement

 

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

 

Qualifications:

 

·         Educated to HNC/HND level or equivalent in practical M&E related discipline

  • Must be numerate and literate to a very high standard with excellent written and verbal skills
  • Strong IT skills – especially Microsoft Word, Excel and experience of CRM systems

 

Knowledge & Experience:

 

  • Strong IT skills – especially Microsoft Word, Excel and experience of CRM systems

 

  • Must be an experienced, entrepreneurial manager with proven P&L accountability

 

  • Experience in mechanical/electrical engineering desirable.  Any knowledge of or experience in a business similar to Serious would be highly advantageous

 

  • Specifically – knowledge of sewage treatment plant/pumping systems, grease management etc., also WMLR would be useful

 

  • Experience scheduling a small fleet of vehicles as per set KPI’s

 

  • Good communication skills, with special emphasis on driver & client relations

 

  • Proven ability to work under pressure – this is not a 9-5 role

 

Ideal Additional Requirements:

 

Ø  Broad understanding of sewage treatment processes and associated waste water management systems including emptying & desludging septic tanks, package STP’s & pumping stations

Ø  Conversant with current waste & associated environmental legislation

Ø  Good geographical knowledge, especially of “Greater” Midlands and North of England

Ø  Experience in administration of HGV fleet operation/maintenance & associated records

Ø  CPC holder and prepared to become nominated person for the existing “O” Licence
